tuesday night before class i tried on what i think i will wear tomorrow for my talent show.
i think i looked like a pirate.
anyone else experience this phenomenon? maybe it's because everything i had on was black and gray and a red fringe scarf?
maybe i should wear purple pants instead of gray? maybe it was the fishnets on my arms?
any ideas?

Re: feeling a little like a pirate
Thu, December 6, 2007 - 9:13 AMMaybe you should just embrace it all the way and put on a do-rag and eye patch?
Pirates are so hot right now...
Kidding! Can I just say that there was some sort of pirate fest going on at Key West last weekend and the entire town was overrun by grown men and woman in "authentic" garb running around "swashbuckling" and "pillaging". By that I mean getting drunk and buying crappy souvenirs like t-shirts that said "if you can read this the bitch fell off". It was awesome.
Anyway, you can always change your costume to be a little more glam. Are you feeling nice and confident and ready to rock the house? -

Thu, December 6, 2007 - 11:02 AMBreak a leg, Amanda!
Pirate Tribal happens all the time. It's not really our style (think Ren Faire wench) but it can be pulled of successfully...even if it's not what you were going for.
I agree with Mellie on the glam aspect. Do you have sparkly stuff you can add in somewhere?
Be sure to tell us all the details of how it goes tomorrow! You nervous? -

Re: feeling a little like a pirate
Thu, December 6, 2007 - 11:23 AMi have that pink coin belt but that felt even more piratey.
i don't have costuming pieces per say... i haven't ever had to have anything fancy before so it's all pretty much practice wear...
any DIY suggestions? I have a very pretty necklace to wear. any advice on building a good costume collection of stuff? -

Thu, December 6, 2007 - 1:32 PMDIY:
Loads of jewelry like bangle bracelets and chunky necklaces.
As Robyn and I always say "More is More". Pile it on there.
Layers of stuff like scarves and sashes and coin belts always make for an opulent and rich look. You really just take whatever you have around, and layer it all in a way that makes sense. Make sure you can dance in it, though, don't want any wardrobe malfunctions. Good luck!
