okay, it's on loan from my kind mother but I have some material I would like to make into one of those skirts with the flaps on the side (like the rose hips) and I was wondering, do I just cut the material in the shape of a trapezoid?
I couldn't remember but did remember you guys saying it was super easy...

Re: watch out, i have a sewing machine
Mon, October 13, 2008 - 12:19 PMLinnett and Melanie actually have a pattern, but I think if you just lay our your material and cut you would be fine probably. Just make sure there is some stretch to the fabric and that it stretches horizontal when you lay it out and cut. And then you sew a seem on either side about halfway down the length. Bam!
Don't tell too many people you can sew; soon you'll be making their costumes! (ask Mel and Linnett)

Mon, October 13, 2008 - 1:09 PMSide note on Tess - She is taking her sewing to a whole new level! My friend just opened a small Art Gallery on Edwards called Funktionality, and Tess has some of her pieces on display and for sale! She is SO proud. The shop is open Mon-Fri 12-4, if you ever have a chance to check it out, tell her I sent you. My sister-in-law, Rachel Walmsley, has some extremely amazing stuff in there this month too - I think it will change every month, all 'local' artists with a youth artist featured each month.

Re: watch out, i have a sewing machine
Tue, October 14, 2008 - 5:42 AMSo I saw some skirts the other day that were literally two long strips of fabric, about a foot and a half in width, that were sewn in two places. Two straight seams connecting the strips in two places, and the long ends of the strips hang down on the sides. Super cute and very easy. I'll show you tonight! -

Re: watch out, i have a sewing machine
Fri, October 17, 2008 - 8:18 AMHey! Thanks for the sketches the other night. I saw down with my mom last night and used the left overs of my black "melt" fabric and made the one with the two long strips (sketch 2). I struggle with the stretchy fabrics, I need to stop pulling them through the machine with my left hand, but it turned out so that's all i care about. LOL
It's very cute, I'm going to have to stop and pick up some more of the funky halloween fabrics while they're discounted!
