Are there any local Cincinnati stores that sell haram pants? As, I have been practicing more at home, my confidence in myself is growing and I am thinking more towards building my "bellydance" war-drobe. I have just finished practicing to a "Bellydance" DVD, and I have just spent sometime practicing Katy's choreography for the beginner's class for the "Hafla". I have also been practicing and working out the kinks for my own "Hafla" solo (which actually borrows more from ballet). As I find myself wanting to become more involved in "bellydance", I am not only wishing to fit in more, but also have fun decorating and expressing myself. I had never had the opportunity to allow myself to be this creative in ballet. The last time that walked into a ballet studio, the atmosphere was so cold, dry, and bland. I had actually been looking for some of the things that male "bellydancers" wear on-line, but I am finding that the female "bellydance" attire appears to be more accessible and possibly easier to wear, so I am thinking about purchasing a couple of chiffon skirts which might match either my purple hip scarf or my red one. I have already made that decision that I plan on investing more into my "bellydance" war drobe, one tax-time comes in January or February. I have seen some sharp looking "bellydance" accessories at "NU-IMAGE" at the Tri-County and Eastgate malls. I have also seen a very limited "bellydance" selection at "Diana's Dance and Fitness" in Blue Ash. Can anybody suggest some stores in the Cincinnati area, that I may not be aware of?
Thank you,
Chris

Re: Are there any local Cincinnati stores that sell haram pants?
Tue, December 11, 2007 - 8:23 AMI have heard ali's (?) boutique in northside has belly dance stuff?
from the research i've done, costuming pieces can be EXPENSIVE!! There is a DIY belly dance costume group here on tribe and Belly Dancer on a budget...I've recently looked into making my own pieces. You can find belly dance costume patterns at local fabric stores and make yourself a pair of harem pants for a lot less than what it would cost you to buy. Don't sew? Check around to any local tailor and see how much it would be to commission a piece like that. I bet you could get it cheaper than from a retailer.
I haven't bought any costume pieces per say, but have purchased a handful of practice wear things online.
I like:
pedralta dance
desert dancer
melodia
as far as gender specific pieces go...
I have seen photos of men in melodia pants. if those don't fit your budget, you can get faux-lodias at places like desert dancer.
i just googled "male belly dance costumes" in the images and found the following:

images.google.com/imgres
(I can't tell if this is a man or a woman, but I don't think it really matters...)

Re: Are there any local Cincinnati stores that sell haram pants?
Tue, December 11, 2007 - 8:57 AMOoooh, the photo where you're not sure if the hotness portrayed is male or female is Steven of Atash Maya in San Diego. He's a fabulous dancer and always seems to have the best costuming. Actually, the whole Atash crew always has the coolest look. YouTube has some good videos of Steven that are worth checking out. He mostly wears Melo pants with funky loincloths and belts and a vest of some sort.
Most of the guys I've seen around wear harem pants and a sash.
Harem pants are pretty much universally flattering and are really easy to make but hard to find in stores. I have an extra pair of red ones that have been sitting around (I made them in my typical slash-and-burn sewing style so they're not perfect but fine for practice). Chris, do you want for me to bring them tonight and you can try them out?

Re: Are there any local Cincinnati stores that sell haram pants?
Tue, December 11, 2007 - 11:13 AMThanks Mellie,
That would be great. Thank you so much. I also plan to do a little bit of looking around this afternoon. I have noticed that "bellydance" seems to have more daring costuming and the gender lines tend to be blurred. To me that is a very good thing. I feel that gives me the freedom to use more of my imagination and be creative.
Thank you so much,
Chris

Re: Are there any local Cincinnati stores that sell haram pants?
Tue, December 11, 2007 - 11:06 AMThank you so much. I will have to check those links out. I had never thought about the fabric stores, but you are right. When I was involved in the "Native American Indian Pow-Wows", me and everyone else involved generally made our own costumes and props. It was time consuming, but it did not cost very much at all. It was also a good way to stay occupied. Thank you for helping me jog my memory. I have noticed that in some cases, not only "bellydance", but in several dance forms or in creative movement, the gender lines tend to be blurred. Which to me is a good thing, as it would appear to allow the freedom of more creativity.
Thank you,
Chris

Re: Are there any local Cincinnati stores that sell haram pants?
Tue, December 11, 2007 - 9:51 PMHi Amanda,
Thanks for the pics. Those guys look really sharp. They have some really cool looking costumes. Maybe some day, I will get to see those guys dance, maybe in a video. I am also going to look at the other tribes, that you have mentioned. The pants that I wore tonight, were from "Nu-Image". I had purchased those right before class. That was a match made in heaven as they were only 25 dollars. I was also thinking about buying the matching red skirt, that the sales lady had suggested, but I may do that next week. Life would be boring if I bought everything at once.
Thank you,
Chris -

Tue, December 11, 2007 - 9:53 PMHey Chris, I had those harem pants with me tonight and totally zoned out and forgot to give them to you.
I like the pants that you had, though, and I may have to go check out Nu-Image. I've never been there.
The pants looked great! -

Re: Are there any local Cincinnati stores that sell haram pants?
Tue, December 11, 2007 - 10:12 PMThank you Mellie, It was kind of funny, but I was actually having trouble figuring out how to put those on. I felt kind of bad, that you made that effort for me, then I just show up with a pair. There are "Nu-Image" stores in both the Tri-County and Eastgate malls. I had purchased two hip-scarves there earlier this year. That was like a match-made in heaven tonight. Red is definitely my color. It was good for me to see how they would be to move in. Thank you so much for the feedback. And for the record, I apologize if I am very bad with names. With the exception of Katy and Robin, I am now only starting to connect the names and the faces, from using "Tribe", even though I have been attending class for over a year now. See you next week.
Cheers!!!

Re: Are there any local Cincinnati stores that sell haram pants?
Tue, December 11, 2007 - 10:45 PMI'm the one with the tattoos :).
I'll bring them next week. They should fit- I know you're taller than me but these pants were a little long to begin with so they might be fine.
And I work near Tri-County so I may just go check out Nu-Image tomorrow. Nice to find a source for dance wear other than the internet! -
